Lighting
The reason for this is that as humans get older their corneas develop layers, much like an onion, which then absorb more light. This means less light gets to the retina and the light receptors housed there.
Unfortunately, just adding 40 more watts of light doesn't help. However, following these tips may help.
- Using Portable Lights
If remodeling is not an option, consider using portable lighting. As an example, a George Kovacs torchiere bouncing light off the ceiling creates a glare-free reading environment. Floor lamps with flexible arms that will move the light as needed are also available. Clamp on portable lights are available for the work table.
For the bedroom, the experts also recommend a headboard with built-in lights to avoid the higher cost associated with remodels. Not only is this light more flexible than a lamp, it can be installed so that the light shines on the reader and not on a sleeping partner.
